Nickel
GlobeStars Ni Laterite Concessions cover 198 km2 of the Falcondo nickel belt, where Falconbridge has been producing nickel for over 30 years from shallow nickel-laterite deposits. The region offers an established power and nickel smelting infrastructure, an existing consumer for higher grade nickel ore and low production costs.
Globestar is currently undertaking a resource evaluation program in the Cerro Cumpie- Loma Mala area, located in the northern tip of its 100% owned Nickel laterite concessions. This drilling phase follows the 2006 (67-hole), drilling campaign that permitted the discovery of saprolite bearing ridge tops (Best intersections: 17 meters grading 2.0% Ni and 20 meters grading 1.7% Ni).
At the same time Globestar is actively exploring the rest of the belt. Up to date much of the belt remains unmapped. Mapping and pitting have revealed mineralization at Corozal (1.8% nickel), 4 kilometers south of Cumpié Hill and Loma Prieta, (2.2% nickel on the ridge top, 1.8% nickel at the base) 43 kilometres south of Cumpié Hill.
Globestar is examining all the possible processing routes and reviewing smelting options for its future Ni laterite operations.
